2018 Scholarships - application opening 01 Feb 2018

From $500 scholarships in 2014, SECOME will provide $20,000 in scholarship awards this year! 


The Southeastern Council on Military Education will be awarding scholarships

to qualifying individuals at the 2018 annual SECOME Symposium.

In order to be considered for a SECOME Scholarship, the following must be submitted NLT

  • SECOME Scholarship Application Form - Access to form will open 01 February 2018.
  • Unofficial transcript(s) showing current enrollment and accumulative GPA
  • Two Forms of Recommendation from Academia, Professional, and/or Community - who can attest to your motivation, character, and integrity.
  • Essay on "What is the biggest challenge that you have faced as a non-traditional student, and how will your education enhance your future goals in life" (approximately 500-750 word)


$500 - $2500 Scholarships are available to:

  • Active Duty, Drilling Reservists, or National Guard Members assigned to a military installation and resides in Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina
  • Spouses of Active Duty Members, Veterans, Drilling Reservists, National Guard Members who resides in Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina
  • Veterans who resides in Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina 

                   * Members of the SECOME Board (past or present), SECOME Scholarship Committee and their families are not eligible. 

In addition to the Scholarship award, winners will be invited to attend our conference at no charge, and receive one night accommodation at the symposium venue during the 2018 SECOME Symposium.  

*These scholarships are open only to U.S. Citizens and must reside on Georgia, North Carolina or South Carolina soil.  Applying for scholarships do not guarantee awards. The SECOME Scholarships are competitive and the SECOME Scholarship Committee takes adequate time to review all applicants' submissions and their materials.  An applicant is ineligible if they do not meet the above criteria, and/or if SECOME does not receive all required materials by the deadline.

Qualifications:
Only students that meet all of the following qualifications will be considered for awards:
  • The student must currently be enrolled at a SECOME member institution and have at least 6 credit hours completed at the SECOME member institution. 
  • The student must reside in Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina.
  • Currently pursing a credit-barring certificate, associates, baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral program. 
  • Accumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Completed application packet (see above).

SECOME just keeps on growing! This year, the organization has seen the largest scholarship application response, as well as awarded the largest amount of scholarships within the organization's history! The student recipients were offered a free night stay at the Hilton Savannah DeSoto in Savannah, GA as well as a gas gift card to help with the travel expenses to the venue to accept the scholarship certificate in person as well as participate on the student panel during the 2016 Symposium. SECOME awarded 5, $1000 scholarship awards to the following noteworthy recipients:

2015 Student Scholarships Recipients

The student recipients were offered a free night stay at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina to accept the scholarship certificate in person as well as participate on the student panel during the 2015 symposium. Due to the growth of SECOME membership as well as sponsorship, SECOME was able to award 6 scholarships this year - double the amount from the previous year. $500 scholarships were awarded to the following military-affiliated students:

The Student recipients were offered free travel expenses and a free night stay at the Avista Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to accept the scholarship certificate in person during the 2014 annual conference.
